The Hopland Research and Extension Center (HREC) is the University of California's principal field research facility for agriculture and natural resources in the North Coast region. Rod Shippey Hall, HREC's new 5,139-sq.ft. facility, is designed as a friendly, open place that relates to the unique natural landscape and climate. Green design features include reclaimed wood beams, low energy light fixtures, and attractive 'rainchains' (rain cups) to control rainwater flow from the inverted roof over the lobby.
